Skateboard Press

To celebrate the marriage of two of my best friends I set out to create individual gifts that shared the connection of love. Having skateboarded with the groom a lot growing up I thought it was only appropriate to relate the gift back to the beginning of our friendship. Using Rhino 3D, 123D Make, and a Universal Laser I created a two-piece mold to shape the wood veneers into the contour of the board. The graphic was created from a drawing I processed through the Great Scott App by Reza Ali. Shout out to Katrina Herman for helping me burn the screen.

Creating a Contemporary Letterpress Alphabet with a CNC

The industrial revolution inspired a progression for printmakers and lumberjacks alike. Wooden letterforms were carved out of type-height blocks using a router that translates by hand over a master copy. This left type designers at the mercy of a reproduction technique. Using a a 1/4” straight bit and modern-day CNC router I explored the evolution of this production limitation in printmaking and type design.
